Dr. Manny Block, PhD shared a few of his aviation stories
and training tips with the LSA North, Stick-n-Rudder Flight Training spring
ground school class at AirLake. Pilots in attendance were both student
pilots and licensed pilots who had heard him speak before and wanted to learn
more from his lifetime of aviation experiences. Dr. Block wrote his
dissertation An Analysis of Factors Involved in Teaching Pilots to Land
and is an industry expert in teaching student pilots. 2009.04.28 |

Licensed pilots and current students of LSA North ~
Stick-n-Rudder Flight Training had the opportunity to tour the Saint Paul,
Holman Field control tower on April 3, 2009. The perspective from above
was quite enlightening vs. the usual view from ground level of the airport
taxi ways and runways. The controllers emphasized the value of getting a
squawk code and using flight following coming to, and leaving, the Class D
airspace. The controllers suggested asking for progressive taxi
instructions when lost or in unfamiliar areas, and to let them know that you
are a Student Pilot on call up. They welcomed the students and asked that they
come back and practice landings at KSTP anytime. |

Fourteen student pilots and instructors from LSA North,
Stick-n-Rudder Flight Training toured the Minneapolis - Farmington Air Traffic
Control facility on 09FEB09. They were given a weather brief and saw how
the weather in one part of the country can affect flights on the other side.
They were given the opportunity to each sit with a controller working a
different sector of the country. |
